Troop was a California teen band that got its start by winning a talent show in the mid 80s. Troop signed to atlantic, and their debut single, "Mamacita" from the self titled album,reached number two on the R&B charts in 1989. It was produced by Gerald and Eddie Levert (for Trevel productions) and the lead vocalists were Steve Russell and Allen McNeil. Their second release was "Attitude",released in 1989.In 1992 Troop returned with "Deepa", a seriously underrated album with a remake of a Deele ballad "Sweet November", and "Whatever It Takes (To make you stay)." After Deepa, Troop recorded "A lil' sumpin' sumpin' and "Mayday", but was never able to achieve the same level they did with their first two albums.Lead singer Steve Russell worked on Special Generation's Butterflies album in 1993, an extremely hard album to find.
