.: The Soulmovement Hot One :. From Monday to Friday every hour in the Daily Grooves & Nightmoves broadcasts. The 'Soulmovement Hot One' for June is The Sounds of eM - Perseverance
What's to know about The Sounds Of eM ?My movement began as early as I can remember starting out playing harmonica, congas and trumpet. Playing in my Elementary School band and Jazz band. After graduating and going on to Middle School I went off to a private school that unfortunately didn’t have a music program. So outside of my trumpet lessons with my private teacher, things got kind of boring, not being able to play in a band with other band mates. With a few failed attempts in the neighborhood start up bands, that never went anywhere. However by the age of 11, I was exposed to Hip Hop in it’s rawest form, in it’s beginning stages in the Home of Hip Hop the Boogie Down Bronx. I clearly remember the battles at the Valley Park, and parties at the Tee-Connection and the P.A.L. on Webster Avenue, historical events! I then emerged as a young DJ and than began writing rhymes and became an MC, going by the name of the Godfather “KC” Rock the year was 1977.
Born and raised in Mount Vernon, New York I lived a 1/2 a block away from the borderline between the Bronx and Mount Vernon N.Y. So I got the best of both worlds, as a MC part of my crew called the Dynamic 3 MC’s we were some of the Dopest MC’s in Money Earnin’ Mount Vernon. After years of battle’s, parties and just making and selling cassettes it was time to expand and go to the next level, which for me was creating a buzz for myself in the Boogie Down. After doing so, I becoming apart of a crew from the Eden Wald Projects in the Bronx the legendary “Grand Mixer DXT (formerly D.ST.) & the Infinity Rappers”.
In the year of 1982 we recorded Cuts It Up (Celluloid Records) by the Grand Mixer DXT & the Infinity Rappers (Shahiem & myself “the Godfather KC” ). Which followed with a European tour, which is in the timeline of Hip Hop that became the first International Hip Hop tour entitled “THE NEW YORK CITY RAP TOUR" featuring: Afrika Bambaataa, Fab 5 Freddie, Rammellzee, GrandMixer DXT & The Infinity Rappers (Shahiem & the Godfather KC), the Rock Steady Crew, the McDonalds Double Dutch Girls, Graffiti Artists: Phase 2, Futura 2000, and Dondi. At this point parts of Europe and Asia became exposed to the culture, which resulted in its fast growing popularity worldwide.
After graduating from High School while still recording with my group Infinity, I enrolled into to an Audio School in N.Y.C. and studied Recording Engineering. Upon completion I was hired at a major Jingle Music House (Warner/Levinson) as an Assistant Engineer. Somewhere after that point I transitioned from rapper to singer and composed music and lyric to my first song I sung and produced myself. That song went on to became the Classic 1987, club Anthem Without You (Gotta Get You Back Into My Life) by my group I founded entitled “TOUCH” (Supertronics Records). Which just happened to be my second encounter in getting in on the ground floor of yet another first genre of music called House. We toured and played many clubs and venues throughout the country. However our performances at the Paradise Garage just so happen to be some of my most memorable events! Also performing at the finale night of the closing of the Paradise Garage was absolutely priceless!
After the label went under we disband and I put together my next group
Entouch and brought the world II Hype (Put On My Best, Can't Believe That She Said Yes) as well as All Nite featuring
Keith Sweat. We toured the States and Abroad, performed on shows such as Soul Train, BET and Showtime at the Apollo to name a few. With videos playing on many of the Network T.V./Cable channels such as (BET, MTV, VH1, The Video Music Box).
So I moved from my hometown of Mount Vernon, New York to Atlanta. I always say, “Sometimes one has to get out to get back in”, and that’s exactly what I did. Started working with
Keith Sweat and his label Keia Records producing and composing songs for Get Up On It, and his Multi-Platinum self titled album, which to date is his biggest selling CD. In which the Platinum Plus, American Music Awarded single that I produced and composed entitled Twisted. Another act from Keith’s camp was a female trio called slecht Klose, in which I produced and composed 5 songs on their debut CD. Continuing to create and produce many Hot acts coming out of the new Motown of the South.
After signing a publishing deal with Zomba/Universal, and building my state of the art recording studio, I felt it was a great time to start my production company Deepsound inc. So I could develop and mentor artist, singers, songwriters and producers. In 2001 my label Deepsound Recordings released an independent CD on an act signed to my label. From there on I continued to produce, compose and do remixes for major acts such as: Eve, Jada Kiss, LL Cool J, Destiny’s Child, Toni Braxton, BabyFace, Tyrese, SWV, Johnny Gill, Cassidy, Lorenzo, and the group Mista.
